Paul is slated to play a fund raising event tonight to benefit the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts.
The
Tobin Center opened last month after a seven-year effort to transform
the old municipal building into a world-class performing arts venue.
Officials said landing the McCartney concert helps put the center on the map.
KSAT
interviewed Michael Fresher, president and chief executive officer for
the Tobin Center, when the concert was announced in July.
"Our
board was very supportive of getting the biggest rock star in the
world," said Fresher. "It's absolutely unheard of and it's a
once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the folks in San Antonio to not only
see one of the only remaining Beatles, but also to support the Tobin
Center."
The Beatles legend easily sells out 50,000-seat arenas
but this will be a rare intimate performance as the Tobin Center
performance hall seats only 1,750.
McCartney and his band are
scheduled to take the stage 8 p.m. This will be McCartney's first
appearance in San Antonio since 1993.
The concert tops off a
month-long grand opening celebration for the new $203 million performing
arts center located in the heart of downtown San Antonio.
