PAUL AND RINGO DO END UP PERFORMING TOGETHER "QUEENIE EYE" AT THE 2014 GRAMMY AWARDS

So glad the Recording Academy went for reuniting Paul and Ringo and not, as Steve Coogan joked, Paul and the Jonas Brothers.

The former Beatles mates both sat together with their wives in the audience, they also hit the stage together at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards for a performance that was never officially confirmed as in the works, but which was both hinted at and hoped for.

Earlier in the night, Ringo hopped onstage to perform "Photograph," as various black and white, er, photographs flashed behind him, some of them of the Fab Four back in the day.

But then he was done, and there was no Paul, prompting the fear that their much-anticipated reunion wasn't going to happen.

But when Paul finally took the stage (after a surprise introduction by Julia Roberts) to perform "Queenie Eye" and celebrate the lifetime achievement award the Beatles received during the pre-Grammys Special Merit Awards last night, he was joined by Ringo on drums.

Just like old times.

After wrapping up, the pioneering rockers took a bow hand-in-hand and shared a hug as the crowd gave them an enthusiastic standing ovation.

Their first performance together since Ringo's 70th-birthday celebration in 2010 comes ahead of CBS' 50th anniversary special, The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute to the Beatles, airing Feb. 9—exactly 50 years since the game-changing group made their U.S. TV debut on The Ed Sullivan Show.

Earlier in the night, McCartney shared the win for Best Rock Song for "Cut Me Some Slack" with the tune's fellow writer-performers Dave Grohl, Pat Smear and Krist Novoselic, the fruit of those Macca-jamming-with-remainder-of- Nirvana headlines from late 2012.

"It was magic for me playing with these guys," McCartney said backstage after the win. "Tell you the truth, I didn't know who they were. I found myself in the middle of a Nirvana reunion."

The 71-year-old legend also notched a win during the non-televised portion of the ceremony, for Best Music Film for Live Kisses.
