PETE BEST WAS AWARDED IN PERU

Best spent many years away from the public eye, even working as a baker, but since 1988 he decided to return to music and Beatles fans from all over the world treat him like another star, as has been demonstrated in Lima, Peru.

In 1962, the Beatles, on the verge of becoming famous, decided to replace the drummer who had been playing with them since 1959 with another, also from Liverpool: Ringo Starr.

Pete Best will give a concert this Saturday in the Peruvian capital, but before that, on Friday, the mayor of the San Miguel district, Salvador Heresi, declared him a "distinguished visitor" and took a photo with him next to a monument dedicated to John Lennon.

The last two years have been a dream for Peruvian Beatles fans: in May 2011, Paul McCartney visited the country for the first time, and in November, it will be Ringo Starr's turn.

In an interview given in Lima in which he showed no resentment for his dismissal from the group, he joked that his revenge was having arrived in Peru before Ringo.
