PAUL McCARTNEY NASHVILLE EXHIBIT ARRIVES IN TORONTO, FEBRUARY 2026

The touring exhibition, "Paul McCartney Photographs 1963-64: Eyes of the Storm," offers a unique, firsthand perspective on the dawn of Beatlemania

It showcases nearly 300 never-before-seen photographs from Paul McCartney's private collection, documenting the Beatles’ pivotal early journeys to both Paris and the United States.

Its current location is the Frist Art Museum in Nashville.

Just a stone's throw from the site of Paul McCartney’s recent Nashville concert on Thursday, November 6, the Frist Art Museum is currently housing a remarkable photographic journey. This touring collection, titled "Paul McCartney Photographs 1963-64: Eyes of the Storm," truly fulfills its name, offering an intense look at a three-month period of chaos and creation for The Beatles.

The display arrived at the Frist on the same day McCartney performed at the Pinnacle Theatre. It showcases almost 300 previously unseen photographs taken personally by McCartney between December 1963 and February 1964. These intimate images chronicle the band's explosive early travels, specifically their inaugural group trips to Paris and the United States.

The exhibit provides a fresh, behind-the-scenes vantage point.

For original fans who vividly recall the 1964 Ed Sullivan Show performances, it's a completely novel way to relive that history.

Meanwhile, younger visitors will gain a powerful sense of the dizzying speed at which pop culture was transforming during that era.

National Portrait Gallery senior curator Rosie Broadley said:

“When we saw this wealth of material, we can see that there was more there and actually seeing the ones that weren’t the most perfect version of the ones that were just them hanging out having tea,” Broadley said.

“It was something you didn’t get with any other photographer because they’re not smiling for the camera. It’s not for the press, it’s not for the cover of a magazine or an album. It’s just for Paul.”

Some of the most impactful images in the collection actually don't feature The Beatles at all. These photos invite us to see the original audience—the excited fans—and easily picture them as our own family members: parents, aunts, uncles, or cousins caught up in that momentous event. These were young people desperate to shake the band's hands, and these pictures clearly illustrate that the feeling of connection was mutual on the part of The Beatles.

The exhibition, "Paul McCartney Photographs 1963-64: Eyes of the Storm," was put together by the National Portrait Gallery in London. It's currently running at the Frist Art Museum in Nashville, where it will remain until January 26, 2026. Following its Nashville run, the show moves to the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto, scheduled for February 2026.
