A vintage 1960s driving license belonging to Paul McCartney, which documented his driving offenses and associated monetary penalties, achieved a selling price of £15,600 at a recent auction held in Surrey.
This classic UK driving permit from that era includes the full name of The Beatles' renowned bass player and vocalist, his former residential address in London, and his distinctive signature penned in blue felt-tip.
According to Ewbank's Auctions, the reverse side of the document reveals details of two separate convictions and fines: one recorded in Coventry on February 7, 1968, and another in Bath on May 11, 1969.
The item, which had been originally estimated to sell for significantly less—between £800 and £1,200—was enthusiastically described by auctioneer Andrew Ewbank as an "uncommon keepsake." Mr. Ewbank remarked, "This represents a one-of-a-kind piece of memorabilia, commemorating the period of paper-copy driving licenses and belonging to one of the globe's most famous musical figures."
The license was one of the featured lots in Ewbank's dedicated Music Memorabilia sale, which took place on Thursday in Woking.
