The Third Eye," an exhibition of photographs from the 1960s showcasing the band, was personally curated by George Harrison's widow, Olivia Harrison.
On July 10, Random House, an imprint of Random House Publishing Group, announced the forthcoming publication of The Third Eye. The book is a collection of personal photography by George, centered on his time in the Beatles.
The Third Eye showcases over 250 color and black and white photographs, taken by George between 1963 and 1969. The intimate images, many of which have never before been published, feature George with bandmates Paul McCartney, John Lennon and Ringo Starr, “at work and play” across the world, in locations spanning from Liverpool to India.
The book is curated by Olivia Harrison, who also wrote an essay to accompany the collection. The Third Eye will also feature words by George, as well as an introduction and epilogue by authors Colm Tóibín and George Saunders, respectively.
“Books like this sure don’t come along very often,” said Random House publisher Andy Ward in the statement. “It’s a window into the mind of a truly great artist, a chance to experience the world through George’s eyes and a deeply personal record of a transformative cultural moment.”
"The Third Eye" joins the ranks of published photography collections by former Beatles. In 2023, McCartney released 1964: Eyes of the Storm, also centered on his time in the band. Starr has released multiple photo books over the years, including 2018's Another Day in the Life.
“I want to show people, from George's unique photographic perspective during the Beatles' early years, the moments when the whole of your life is ahead of you with unknowable possibilities,” she said in the statement. “His images in The Third Eye capture that spirit.”
The Third Eye is set to be published in fall 2026.
