The girlfriend of Arthur Donald, - Paul McCartney’s grandson- expressed her embarrassment after revealing she knew hardly anything about the band. Phoebe Gates, 22, - whose own father is tech titan Bill Gates - has been in a relationship with Arthur Donald, 26, for almost two years.
The fashion entrepreneur was asked on the Call Her Daddy podcast about whether she was a “Beatles person” given who she was dating.
She replied: “Oh man… it is so bad, like I am so bad at music. My family were so nerdy so I knew nothing about music. I knew about tech stuff growing up, not music stuff.” Phoebe lives in New York and Arthur, who resides in California, visits her on weekends.
And speaking to host Alex Cooper, she said the famous family often teases her because of her limited music knowledge. She said: “So I remember early on he [Arthur] was, like, so excited, he thought was going to rizz me. He took me to an Elton John concert. Elton John comes out in a bedazzled tracksuit - and I was like, ‘Is Elton John g*y?’
“His entire family starts dying laughing and now we have been dating almost two years and every time I see them they are like, (laughs), 'Is Elton John g*y? This girl went to Stanford! Is Elton John g*y… are you kidding me?’
Arthur is the eldest son of Mary McCartney and Alistair Donald. He was born in England and went to University College School in north London.
In the past he has supported his aunt, Stella McCartney, with her flagship store in London, and has worked as an investor at the Collaborative Fund.
And while he has an eye for business, his talents do not extend to the music world, as his girlfriend revealed on the podcast.
She said: "Unfortunately Arthur does not have any musical talent. I have been trying to get him to serenade me for a very long time - but it has not happened.”
Phoebe meanwhile has opened up in the past about her struggles with being the daughter of someone as famous as Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates. Speaking on her The Burnouts podcast, she said: “I had so much insecurity and, like, such a desire to prove myself. I was like, I have so much privilege. I'm a nepo baby.”
She recently launched a new shopping tool called Phia and she spoke to The New York Times about the pressure of her surname.
