TODAY MARKS 50th ANNIVERSARY THE BEATLES IN NEW ORLEANS

Tuesday marks the 50th anniversary of The Beatles making their one and only visit to The Big Easy.

It all took place Sept. 16, 1964, over at City Park Stadium. It's now called Tad Gormley Stadium.
John, Paul, Ringo and George touched down in New Orleans and spent less than 24 hours in the city to play in front of an estimated 12,000 fans.

"Other people were running and trying to roll in the limousine dirt of The Beatles," one resident told WDSU. "Where they had walked or their cars had gone."
It was reported that the famous British rock band caused 200 teens to collapse from excitement.

A hundred of them broke through a barricade and charged the stage at the park. Officials state that it took 225 officers and 20 minutes to restore order at the concert.
Before the "Fab Four" took to the stage, city officials issued a proclamation that day making Sept. 16 "Beatles Day." The group was even given a key to the city.

Residents wanting to relive the concert or hear some of their favorite songs can attend a tribute concert Tuesday evening. It begins at 7 p.m. over at Tad Gormley Stadium.
