MEDIA ADVISORY - PORT AUTHORITY TO HOST FEBRUARY 7TH COMMEMORATION OF 5OTH ANNIVERSARY OF BEATLES ARRIVAL AT JFK AIRPORT

Date: Jan 31, 2014 Press Release Number: 27-2014
Tribute will include unveiling of Beatles historical airport marker and live band playing group’s classic hit songs

Fifty years to the day the Beatles arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport to screaming fans, the Port Authority will mark the anniversary with a tribute to the historic musical and cultural event at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, February 7 at the landmark TWA Flight Center.

The Port Authority, in conjunction with Beatles Fest and Radio Station Q104.3 FM, will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Beatles arrival at JFK Airport from London on a Pan Am flight early in the afternoon of Feb. 7, 1964. Shortly after walking down the steps off the plane, the Beatles held their first U.S. press conference at the airport, beginning their first U.S. tour and kicking off Beatlemania.

Port Authority Executive Director Pat Foye and Deputy Executive Director Deb Gramiccioni will unveil a historical marker inside the restored TWA Flight Center, paying tribute to the Beatles arrival at JFK Airport. The Beatles Fest band Liverpool will play some of the group’s classic tunes in front of some of the fest’s fans, who are coming to the airport courtesy of Q104.3 to honor the Fab Four.

The TWA Flight Center is located in JFK’s Central Terminal Area, adjacent to JetBlue’s Terminal 5. Media will have the opportunity to go live from the event. Due to logistics, media wishing to attend are asked to RSVP to the Port Authority’s Media Relations Office at 212-435-7777.
