THE BEATLES RETURN TO THE TOP 10 WITH ANTHOLOGY 4

Thirty years after the original project began in 1995, The Beatles' retrospective Anthology album series is once again making waves on the Billboard charts.

The latest installment, Anthology 4, made an impressive debut in the top 10 on the US Top Current Album Sales chart dated December 6.

This 36-song compilation includes 13 songs from The Beatles' archives that have never been heard before.

The album also performed strongly across the pond, landing at No. 9 on the UK Official Top 100 Albums Chart.

This resurgence of interest was strategically timed to coincide with several other major releases:

  • A 25th-anniversary re-release of the corresponding book, The Beatles Anthology.

  • The streaming premiere of The Beatles Anthology documentary series on Disney+ starting November 26.

    • The original 1995 ABC TV documentary consisted of eight parts, but the new 2025 version has been expanded to nine parts.

The first three albums in the Anthology series, released in 1995 and 1996, were massive successes, all reaching the summit of both the Billboard 200 and Top Album Sales charts.

Anthology 4 faces stiff competition in the current top 10, which includes Stray Kids' Do It at the top spot (No. 1), the Wicked: For Good soundtrack at No. 2, and Aerosmith and Yungblud's collaboration, One More Time, at No. 3.

Historically, The Beatles have dominated the Billboard 200, achieving 19 No. 1 albums, including classics like Revolver (1966), Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967), and Abbey Road (1969).

ON THIS DAY: THE BEATLES ON TE MORECAMBE AND WISE SHOW

The Beatles on The Morecambe and Wise Show

December 2, 1963: Production Day

On Monday, December 2, 1963, at 10:00 AM, a pivotal moment in British television history took place. The Beatles were on the set of the highly popular The Morecambe and Wise Show.

The band's segment was shot that day at ATV's Elstree Studio in Borehamwood. However, the broadcast itself did not reach the nation's screens until the following spring.

The day began with a morning rehearsal where the group practiced their routines.

The filming session took place that afternoon.

For the small studio audience, The Beatles performed three tracks:

"This Boy"

"All My Loving" and

"I Want To Hold Your Hand."

Following their musical numbers, they joined comedy legends Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise for a brief, humorous sketch. They concluded their appearance by performing a lighthearted rendition of the classic standard, "Moonlight Bay."

Broadcast and Subsequent Releases

The episode of The Morecambe and Wise Show first aired on ITV on Saturday, April 18, 1964, at 8:25 PM. The performance was shown again on July 24 of the subsequent year as part of The Best of Morecambe and Wise Show compilation.

The rendition of "Moonlight Bay" was later officially released on The Beatles' compilation album, Anthology 1, in 1995.
