George Harrison established Harrisongs Ltd. in late 1964 (initially registered as Mornyork Ltd.) at 27 Ovington Square in London, sharing real estate with Apple Corps.
Frustrated by low royalties and minor status under Northern Songs—the Lennon/McCartney-tied firm that published his early Beatles tracks and his 1968 solo soundtrack Wonderwall Music (alongside Maclen Music in the US)—Harrison parted ways when his contract expired in March 1968 (commemorated via "Only a Northern Song"). Ringo Starr similarly launched Startling Music.
Harrisongs debuted its publishing output in 1968 with "Sour Milk Sea" and Harrison's four tracks on the White Album (including "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"). On 1969's Abbey Road, "Here Comes the Sun" and "Something" achieved massive syndication; "Something" alone generated enduring royalties via over 150 cover versions. Full ownership shifted from 80% to 100% by 1970, shielding Harrison from the revenue loss Lennon and McCartney suffered amid corporate disputes.
Post-Beatles, Harrisongs handled All Things Must Pass, while 1973's Living in the Material World rights went to Harrison's Material World Charitable Foundation. Later material (from Dark Horse onward) moved through Ganga, Oops, Umlaut Corporation (which is controlled by the composer's widow, Olivia Harrison), and worldwide administration via Bicycle Music Company (Concord) starting in 2016.
