RECORDING 'NO MORE LONELY NIGHTS' (1984)

In 1984, Paul McCartney collaborated with Pink Floyd’s legendary guitarist, David Gilmour, for the lead single of the soundtrack to the film Give My Regards to Broad Street.

The track, "No More Lonely Nights," became a global hit, reaching the top 10 in both the UK and the US.

The "One-Take" Legend: According to McCartney in various interviews (including his Wingspan documentary), Gilmour arrived at the studio and laid down the iconic closing guitar solo almost immediately. McCartney recalls that Gilmour nailed the feel and phrasing in essentially the first take, showcasing his trademark melodic precision.
The Gear: Gilmour used his famous "Black Strat" (a 1969 Fender Stratocaster) through a combination of a Boss HM-2 Heavy Metal pedal and an MXR Digital Delay to achieve that soaring, "liquid" sustain that defines the song's outro.
A Professional Trade: Interestingly, Gilmour reportedly refused to be paid for the session. Instead, he asked McCartney to make a donation to a charity of his choice. In exchange, McCartney later provided backing vocals for Gilmour’s solo track "Globalization" (though they have collaborated on several other projects since, like the Run Devil Run album).
