The Beatles' seminal 'Anthology' project is set for a major resurgence in 2025, offering fans a new book, a remastered album collection, and a video series with a brand new installment.
Originally launched in November 1995, the initial 'Anthology' series captivated audiences with a groundbreaking eight-part documentary and some of the first new music from the band since John Lennon's passing. The surviving members—Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr—collaborated with producer Jeff Lynne on the tracks "Real Love" and "Free as a Bird," which were built from Lennon's original demos. The project was followed by two more albums, 'Anthology 2' and 'Anthology 3,' in 1996.
Now, the saga continues with a confirmed new installment. The original documentary series has been meticulously restored and remastered and will feature a brand new Episode Nine. This new episode contains previously unseen behind-the-scenes footage of McCartney, Harrison, and Starr as they worked on the original 'Anthology' project between 1994 and 1995.
The new episode will be available for exclusive streaming on Disney+ starting November 26.
Alongside the documentary, the 'Anthology Music Collection,' originally curated by the legendary George Martin, will be re-released.
The collection, which has been remastered by Giles Martin, will be presented as three double albums, including a new 'Anthology 4.'
This fourth volume will feature 13 unreleased demos and session recordings, as well as new mixes of "Free As A Bird" and "Real Love."
The collection will be available digitally and in deluxe 12-LP 180-gram vinyl and 8-CD box sets, with a release date of November 21.
The re-release also includes a restored music video for "Free As A Bird" and a new 'The Beatles Anthology Book – 25th Anniversary Edition,' which will be available on October 14.
According to a press release, the book provides the four Beatles' "honest, intimate and revelatory recollections" of the band’s journey, along with insights from collaborators like Neil Aspinall, George Martin, and Derek Taylor.
The book is an archival treasure, featuring 1,300 photos, documents, artwork, and other memorabilia.
It’s also worth noting that the original 'Anthology' release included early workings of "Now And Then," a song penned by Lennon in 1978.
Though the track was not included on the original 'Anthology' project, McCartney and Starr later used AI technology to complete and officially release the song in 2023, after receiving the demo from Lennon’s widow, Yoko Ono, in 1994.
