THE BEATLES WANTED MICK JAGGER AS THE LEAD IN ‘A CLOCKWORK ORANGE’

In 1967, The Beatles signed a letter to screenwriter Terry Southern, who was adapting Anthony Burgess's novel A Clockwork Orange for the screen. The letter protested the casting of David Hemmings as Alex, the protagonist, and instead suggested that Mick Jagger should play the role. The letter was signed by all four Beatles, as well as Marianne Faithfull, Anita Pallenberg, Peter Blake, and other luminaries of 1960s culture.

Mick Jagger himself was reportedly interested in playing Alex, and he even met with Kubrick to discuss the role. However, in the end, Kubrick decided to go with Hemmings, who gave a memorable performance in the film.

The letter was written in February 1968 and was addressed to Terry Southern, who was writing the screenplay for A Clockwork Orange.
