PAUL MCCARTNEY FEELS "MAYBE I´M AMAZED" IS A SONG FOR EVERYONE NOW

Paul McCartney wrote one of his most famous solo songs, “Maybe I’m Amazed,” as an expression of his love for Linda McCartney. During an interview, he revealed he no longer thinks the song is just about Linda. He also revealed why he continues to write love songs to this day.
During an interview on NPR, Mary Louise Kelly said her favorite Beatles tracks are songs about love, such as “All You Need Is Love,” “Can’t Buy Me Love,” and “All My Loving.” Notably, Paul wrote the latter two songs. Paul revealed he writes love songs to this day because love is a worthy topic.

Paul said he sometimes tries to compose protest songs, but he doesn’t think he’s good at it. He said when he does write songs of that nature, he tries to write tracks that are optimistic and helpful, such as The Beatles’ “Blackbird.”

Kelly praised Paul’s solo love song “Maybe I’m Amazed.” “I will say, I think my favorite love song of yours is ‘Maybe I’m Amazed,’ which came out in 1970 when you were married to Linda; it’s just so beautiful,” Kelly said. “I wonder, when you sing it now, when you hear that now, are you able to think this is about everybody — this is for all of us?”

“Yeah, I think so,” Paul replied. “As you say, it was for Linda, but as time goes on and people say they like it, I always like to give up ownership and say, ‘Great, well, I hope this fits with your life.'”

Paul said he enjoys it when fans make his songs their own. “And you know, it’s very nice when people say, ‘We used this song in our wedding,'” Paul added. “That’s a huge compliment. Once you’ve written [songs] and once you release them, they’re like birds: They fly away, and you have no control over them. And I’m happy for them to land in other people’s lives.”

Wings’ live version of “Maybe I’m Amazed” hit No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, remaining on the chart for 13 weeks. The live version’s parent album, Wings over America, was a success as well. Wings over America reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and stayed on the chart for 90 weeks.

Wings’ live version of “Maybe I’m Amazed” also became a hit in the United Kingdom. The Official Charts Company reports that version of “Maybe I’m Amazed” reached No. 28 in the U.K., staying on the chart for five weeks. Wings over America hit No. 8 in the U.K., remaining on the chart for 23 weeks.
