THE BEATLES UNSEEN: PHOTOGRAPHS BY DAVID MAGNUS

The Beatles Unseen: Photographs by David Magnus is at  Proud Chelsea, 16 March - 14 May 2017;

Unseen photographs of The Beatles taken by photographer David Magnus will go on display at Proud Chelsea.

The photographs bear witness to the phenomenal ascent of the four piece, offering a candid insight into their lives and rise to stardom. Magnus first photographed the band in 1963, when he was just 19 years old and the band were still relatively unknown, which gave him unprecedented access to the band as they grew in significance.

Amongst the images are photos of a pivotal moment in the band’s career, when they recorded All You Need Is Love for the first time for a BBC broadcast, reaching over 400 million people worldwide. Magnus captured frank pictures of the bank relaxing behind the scenes, away from the recording studio.

Magnus summed up Beatlemania with a story of how a canteen staff member had touched his shoulder after he had been photographing the band. “She said to me, ‘I must touch you as you’ve been in the same room as The Beatles’,” he said.
