GEORGE´S PORSCHE 928 RESCUED FROM THE SCRAPHEAP

When Raj Sedha bought a battered old Porsche 928 S in 2003, he planned to strip it for parts before sending it to the scrapyard.

But he got a surprise when his wife flicked through the paperwork and spotted George’s name on the original registration document.

“It didn’t click with me,” explained Sendha. “She said it is George Harrison’s.

“I said, ‘That’s who the man who I bought it off said. Who is he?’

“She said, ‘He’s the Beatle. You can’t take the car apart for spares.'”

The car was MOTed in 2011, but will need further work to get it roadworthy today.

Despite its condition, the 928 is expected to make £20,000 when it goes up for auction next month.

“For anybody that’s into cars and The Beatles, this is a must-have,” said auctioneer Paul Fairweather.

“The 928 is an absolute classic and the fact that it was owned by George for four years from new will ensure that it roars off the auction block.”

George owned the car for four years when it was new. Documentation that comes with the Porsche shows his name and Henley-on-Thames address as the registered keeper.

In-keeping with George’s reputation, the 928 is relatively toned-down, finished in black paint with a black leather interior.

A special Beatles memorabilia sale being held at the Warrington Auction Room on March 17th. It’s being sold with a guide price of around £20,000.
