STELLA’s PARTY AND PRESENTATION AT THE COTTON CLUB

“I don’t have xxx surprise guests,” Stella McCartney declared to a group of early-bird editors at her New York party last night on 125th Street at the Cotton Club to see her Pre-Fall collection, and Stella made the trip to Harlem worth it, not just for the industry types doing their due diligence, but also for her celebrity friends Julianne Moore, Naomi Watts, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Jerry and Jessica Seinfeld. Her fellow Beatles progeny Sean Lennon also made an appearance. “I promise you, she’s magnificent,” Stella said of guest Alicia Keys. And that Keys certainly was, singing her mega-hit “Empire State of Mind” with the house band backing her up on the famous club’s stage.

The event marked McCartney’s first trip to the Cotton Club. “I have to admit, I’ve never properly been to Harlem, so I’m happy on all fronts,” she said. “I’ve always dreamed of coming here. The fusion of fashion and music is so historic. When you’re young and you look at imagery of the Cotton Club, it’s so inspiring.” And now the designer and her fringed Pre-Fall party dresses and pantsuits are part of the history of the place.
