Ringo becomes the last Beatle to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo act in 2015.
Ringo hit the press room prior to his induction Saturday night to talk about just how much it means to him.
"It's an honor really and it has to do with music,"Ringo said. "It
has to do with the fact you did something, in the case of the Rock and
Roll Hall of Fame, 25 years ago."
This isn't Ringo's first rodeo with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The Beatles were inducted as a group back in 1988. But there's a major
difference this time.
"I'll remember this one," Ringo joked.
A lot was made, over the years, of Ringo being the only member of the
Beatles not to have been inducted as a solo act. It's something that
has bugged Joe Walsh, Starr's brother-in-law and a Rock and Roll Hall of
Famer himself with the Eagles.
"I don't know why he wasn't inducted before," said Walsh, who joined
Starr backstage. "That always bothered me. His body of work as a solo
artist is as valid as anybody. He had a long list of hits and singles,
and some great albums too."
Starr seems to have a more casual take on how long it has taken for him to enter the Rock Hall as a solo act.
"You're recognized when you're recognized," Ringo put it simply.
Ringo is set to hit the stage with his longtime friend and former
bandmate Paul, along with a variety of other artists during
tonight's ceremony. Ringo said playing with Paul remains one of his
favorite experiences.
"It's always a thrill for me when I play with Paul," Ringo asserted.
"It's like good friends and people who know each other, and have been
through a lot together."
