Kanye West's unlikely collab with Paul has cracked the top 10 in Australia.
"Only One," which features the Beatles great on guest keys, becomes
the highest new entry of the chart week by arriving at No. 8 on the new
ARIA Singles Chart, published Sunday (Jan. 11).
The chart feat gives Kanye his
seventh top 10 single and his first appearance on the Australian chart
since he provided guest vocals on Katy Perry's "E.T." (Capitol/EMI),
which cracked the top 5 in late January 2011, and his first top ten
single since "Stronger" went to No. 2 in September 2007.
It becomes McCartney's twelfth
solo top 10 entry, and his first since "No More Lonely Nights" made it
to No. 9 way back in November 1984, according to data provided by ARIA.
The last time McCartney appeared
in Australia's top 50 was in January 1993 with "Hope of Deliverance",
which peaked at No. 29. All told, "Only One" is McCartney's 40th chart
entry in Australia since 1971 and it's the 36th for Kanye since he
opened his account in 2004.
"Only One" serves as the first single from Kanye's as yet-untitled
seventh studio album, and, according to Def Jam, is the first of further
collaborations with McCartney. It's already broken into the top 40 in
the U.S. and U.K.
