The house which was home to Brit Pop Art pioneer, Sir Peter Blake,
while he was an evacuee during World War II, is for sale with estate
agent Mullucks Wells.
Sir Peter, now 82, who is best known for his work on
some of the world’s most famous record covers, stayed at Hilldrop House
in Helions Bumpstead in the 1940s.
His iconic work includes the cover of the Beatle’s Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
He made two paintings of Hilldrop House, which was bought by Carol and Colin Hogarth in 1984.
“Over the years we’ve learnt more and more about Sir Peter’s time here,” they said.
“Sir
Peter remembers the house as having no electricity, no gas and an
outside toilet – so he’d barely recognise the property today.”
