A vintage bass guitar signed by Paul has fetched $23,877 for charity on eBay.
The signed left-handed-bass, a 1964
Hofner 500/1 handmade in Germany. Included a black hard shell case and
brown leather guitar strapsent.
The auction provided some good
examples of how to document an autographed item, by providing a record
to help support the items authenticity. A good practice that can only
help bidder confidence.
According to the sellers listing, the
bass was sent to Grammy’s specifically for Paul's signature. Adding;
"Paul signed while backstage during rehearsals for his performance at
this year’s 56th Annual Grammy Awards on Jan. 26, 2014."
The seller (grammyauctions)
then provided a photo of Paul actually signing the guitar, along with
numerous photos of the bass after it was signed. The basses serial
number was also written into the auction listing.
All these steps can add value for a seller who's wanting bidders to give their best.
The photos, auction listing, and purchase receipt (if kept) can all help the buyer, if they decide to resell in the future.
Because all of the documents can help provide proof of authenticity and confidence for the next buyer.
Paul's signature and the guitar were donated to help raise help raise funds for MusiCares. An organization providing assistance for music people in need.
According to MusiCares, Paul was
their first Person of the Year honoree, whose tribute concert grossed
$6 million for the charity.
