Hello and welcome to the PaulMcCartney.com newsletter for August
As
we all know, Paul has played some very special shows. Over the past few
years alone this has included the London Olympics Opening Ceremony, the
Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and a free concert to 250,000 fans in Zócalo,
Mexico City.
This month saw Paul adding another to the list when on the 14th
August he played to 50,000 fans at San Francisco’s Candlestick Park. The
concert was a bittersweet occasion as not only was it the venue for The
Beatles last-ever official public performance, the gig also marked the
last-ever concert to take place in the park before it closes.
To make the gig even more special, during a rarely performed
rendition of Little Richard’s ‘Long Tall Sally’ — the last song to be
performed in its entirety at The Beatles’ final concert — Paul unveiled
never before seen photos from the 1966 gig by famed photographer Jim
Marshall. Paul’s tour photographer MJ Kim was to hand to capture the
night which you can see above.
This month Paul also leant his support to the #saveElephants campaign for The Nature Conservancy’s African Elephant Initiative. He signed a Martin D-28 left-handed guitar — which was auctioned for $50,000 — inscribing the message “This guitar saves elephants”. This month's ‘You Gave Me The Answer’ saw Paul answering the question “As a child, what was your favourite holiday and why?”. To find out Paul’s reply click HERE!
And don't forget to check out the #ThrowbackThursday photo
collection. Each Thursday Paul is publishing a classic photo on his
social networks as part of the Internet theme day and we’re collecting
them together on his website HERE!
