A DAY IN THE LIFE OF THE BEATLES

  • 2009: Paul live at Halifax Common, Nova Scotia, Canada. Paul performed before an estimated 50,000 people at he Halifax Common, Nova Scotia, his only Canadian tour date on his current tour. He described the concert as the start of his “mini North American tour”. His band played for roughly two hours and 40 minutes, with a setlist spanning his entire career. Members of the 78th Highlanders Pipe Band from Halifax took to the stage for Mull Of Kintyre, at the invitation of McCartney. It was a rare live performance for the 1977 hit, which is normally only performed in Scotland.
    During Paperback Writer Paul began by playing the song in the key of A, only to stop when he realised it should have been in G.

  • 2008: Sgt Pepper drum head sells for £541,25.The drum head which appeared on the cover of The Beatles’ album Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band has sold for £541,250 ($1.07m), nearly four times the estimated price, at an auction in London.

    A pair of tinted prescription sunglasses which John Lennon wore on the cover of the Mind Games single sold for £39,650 ($78,400).

  • 1968: John is best man at Alexis Mardas’ wedding.
    Apple’s electronics ‘guru’, Alexis ‘Magic Alex’ Mardas, married on this day in London. His best men were John and the singer-songwriter Donovan.
    Mardas was then 26 years old. He married 22-year-old Eufrosyne Doxiades, the daughter of a respected Greek architect. The wedding took place at St Sophia’s Cathedral, a Greek orthodox church on Moscow Road in the Bayswater area of London.
    Also in attendance were George and his wife Pattie, and Lennon’s partner Yoko Ono.
