The GRAMMY Museum in LA is set to premiere a new exhibition in Liverpool.
The British Invasion: How 1960s Beat Groups Conquered America will
open at the Beatles Story’s Pier Head site in October in a collaboration
with the Liverpool attraction. The exhibition will include a collection of rare, behind- the-scenes
photos of The Beatles taken by Bob Bonis, who served as tour manager
during all three of the band’s American tours. The intimate photographs capture candid moments from life on the road with the band.It will also feature a range of artefacts from musicians including Donovan and Ringo Starr.
Bob Santelli, executive director at The GRAMMY Museum, said today:
“We’re very excited to partner with the Beatles Story Liverpool to
create The British Invasion: How 1960s Beat Groups Conquered America
exhibition.“From radio playlists to merchandising to touring, we dug deep to
uncover the American Blues roots and influencers at the heart of this
invasion, exploring the impact musicians such as The Kinks, The Rolling
Stones, Cilla Black, The Animals and Gerry and the Pacemakers, among
others, had on the American popular music scene of the 1960s.”
The exhibition, which will replace the current Elvis and Us display,
will feature a series of sections including Roots and influences of The
Grammy Awards, The 1964 music invasion: The Mersey Sound, and The Sound
of London and Taking America by Storm. There will also be a selection of interviews with Grammy Award-winning artists.
Beatles Story director Martin King said: “We feel extremely
privileged to be working with The GRAMMY Museum to curate this exciting
exhibition.
“We welcome visitors from all over the world on a regular basis and
believe that this exhibition will really add to what we already have on
offer in Liverpool.
“Our Pier Head site currently houses an Elvis and Us exhibition,
co-curated with Graceland and this summer will be the last chance to
view this. “We will be sad to see Elvis leave the building but the
exhibition has had a great run and has been running longer than planned,
due to its popularity.”
The new exhibition will officially open on October 16.
