Paul is coming to Lubbock on June 14
Texas Tech University and the City of Lubbock held a press conference
on April 16 at the Buddy Holly Center concerning legendary singer,
songwriter, Paul McCartney's scheduled appearance in Lubbock June 14.
Texas Tech officials such as TTU System Chancellor Kent Hance and
Texas Tech President Duane Nellis along with Lubbock Mayor Glen
Robertson and other city representatives made the announcement as a
collaborative effort between Texas Tech University and the City of
Lubbock.
Chancellor Hance commented that this event would be a sellout before
it even started while Mayor Glen Robertson said that McCartney himself
reached out and expressed his desire to play in Lubbock.
Paul, who will turn 72 this year, gained worldwide fame as a
member of The Beatles. He has long credited Lubbock native Buddy Holly
as one of his biggest musical influences.
In a 1974 interview, John Lennon said the name of The Beatles was "directly inspired" by The Crickets.
During the British Invasion "every group tried to be The Crickets," John said.
