PRESS RELEASE FOR THE BEATLES´FIRST ÉD SULLIVAN´APPEARANCE 50 YEARS AGO SUNDAY

It was 50 years ago this Sunday, people weren’t using “it was [NUMBER] of years ago” as a lede for a story about the Beatles, because Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band hadn’t come out yet. But it is an important day in mop-top history: on February 9, 1964, the Beatles played The Ed Sullivan Show for the first time. Over 70 million people tuned in, which doesn’t seem impressive compared to the 100 million the Super Bowl regularly pulls in, until you remember the population was much smaller then and not everyone had a TV, let alone a TV in their living room, bathroom, minivan, guest room, sex dungeon, etc.
Here’s the press release CBS sent out. I’d like to hear more about Wells and the Four Fays.
