The event will raise funds for scholarships to teach the Transcendental Meditation technique to at-risk youth in underserved schools, veterans with post-traumatic stress (PTS), women who are
survivors of domestic violence, and homeless and incarcerated individuals. Ringo is a longtime proponent of the Transcendental Meditation technique having studied with the founder of the TM program, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in the late 1960s. In his book Postcards from the Boys,
he writes that he still meditates with the mantra Maharishi gave him, and that his time studying TM with Maharishi was “one of the best experiences of my life.”
During the press conference preceding the concert Paul talked about their TM practice:"It’s a life long gift. You know it is something that you can call on at any time. Now it’s actually come into the main stream. We (Ringo Starr and I) think it’s a great thing.”
In a statement about the upcoming event in Los Angeles, Hollywood director David Lynch said, “We want to generate the electricity of peace through music. And it’s a thrill to know that the super-creative, enthusiastic musicians of our world are with us to achieve this goal.”
