Arnotts,
founded in 1843 and located on Henry Street, is Dublin’s largest
department store and, not just because of its Beatles’ connections, is
one of our favourites. The Beatles played in the Adelphi Cinema, which
is now part of the Arnotts complex, on Thursday 7 November 1963. The
original 1930s Art Moderne facade of the Adelphi still stands on Middle
Abbey Street, serving now as the entrance to Arnotts Goods Inwards
Department.
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the only Dublin
performances of The Beatles, Arnotts has created a stunning series of
window displays featuring original suits worn by John, Paul, George and
Ringo on their promotional tour of A Hard Days Night.
The suits were tailored by D A Millings and Son, Old Compton Street,
London W1, tailors to The Beatles throughout their careers. Each suit
has a Millings tag noting which suit belonged to which Beatle. The
displays also include original Beatles sheet music and instruments.
The display runs throughout the Dublin Beatles Festival and can be viewed until Monday 11th November.
