IT'S 50 years ago, but it feels like only yesterday that these two groovy chicks went to the concert of a lifetime.
Kay Wilson queued up all night to get tickets for her and pal
Jackie Jaggers to see The Beatles when they came to play at Cheltenham's
Odeon.
And it was worth the effort.
The pair, then aged 15 and 14 respectively, were the envy of all
their friends as they secured front row seats to see the Fab Four.
"It was an amazing night and one I will never forget," said Jackie, now 64, from Springbank.
"Kay had spent all night queuing up to get the tickets.
"Her mum brought her hot chocolate during the night so she could stay in the queue.
"We were determined we were going to the concert and thanks to
Kay going to all that trouble, we got A1 and A2 tickets. We ended up
right in front of George Harrison – who we both had the hots for at the
time.
"It was an unforgettable experience, although a lot of it is a bit of a blur.
"We were both completely hoarse from screaming by the end and we got our picture in the Echo the next day."
Kay and Jackie pair remain good friends and still reminisce over that memorable night.
"Back then all people wanted to talk about was The Beatles," added Jackie.
"But at that point we didn't realise how big they were going to be.
"It's the only time they came to Cheltenham so I'm so glad we went.
"Ever since then, I've had a soft spot for them.
"We've kept the ticket stubs as mementos of an amazing night and we still talk about it from time to time."
Jackie said she didn't have any particular plans to celebrate the
gig's 50th anniversary – but said she might raise a glass to mark the
occasion.
John, Paul, Ringo and George left music fans dizzy with excitement as they blasted out hits during the half hour set in 1963.
The gig effectively kick-started Beatlemania across the UK.
