A
Very Special Christmas, the prestigious holiday music series that
benefits Special Olympics, will celebrate its 26th season with a
collection of really big chestnuts.
A Very Special Christmas: ICON,
out Oct. 15 on Universal Music Enterprises, serves up 11 tracks by John
Lennon and Yoko Ono, Rod Stewart, Sting, Aretha Franklin, Elvis and
other A-list artists, some previous contributors and others on board for
the first time.

Nicole Scherzinger's new recording of O Holy Night, produced by David Foster, will be on ICON's international version.
Since
1987, the album series has generated more than $116 million in
royalties to support Special Olympics programs. Grants totalling more
than $38 million have been distributed to 159 countries, allowing 3
million-plus new athletes to participate in and benefit from Special
Olympics training and competition.
"This album series has been a
remarkable gift to our Special Olympics athletes," Timothy P. Shriver,
Special Olympics chairman/CEO, said in a statement. "Thanks to the
generosity of countless incredible people across the music industry, the
legacy from the A Very Special Christmas album series continues to
support and sustain our work to bring the joy of sport to people with
intellectual disabilities, which in turn fosters a global community of
acceptance and inclusion."
