A LETTER written by John Lennon’s Aunt Mimi sent to a teenage Beatles fan nearly 50 years ago is to go under the hammer.
The letter was sent in 1964 from Mendips, the house in Menlove Avenue, Woolton, where John spent most of his childhood.

Mimi wrote the letter in response to a request from a Beatles fan for the Fab Four’s autographs.
Mary Elizabeth ‘Mimi’ Smith played a huge part in John Lennon’s
early life, taking custody of the young John when his mum – her younger
sister Julia – remarried.
The letter in question was written to 14-year-old Susan Mottram of
Newcastle, Staffordshire. While undated it is complete with addressed
envelope stamped for Woolton, Liverpool, on April 24, 1964.
This was just a few weeks after The Beatles celebrated holding the top five positions on the Billboard Hot 100 singles list.
The guide price for the lot, to be sold at Cuttlestones auction
rooms in Wolverhampton on Friday, is between £200 and £400, but – given
its rarity – it could spark a bidding war.
Saleroom manager Tom Waldron said: “Mimi was a big figure in John’s
life. A letter from her would be a nice item for a collector.”
