PAUL TALKS ABOUT WORKING WITH FOUR PRODUCERS ON NEW ALBUM

Paul is putting the finishing touches on a new studio album alongside a quartet of producers including Giles Martin, son of the Beatles’ legendary collaborator George Martin.

“I’ve made some tracks, and I’m sorting them all out, putting them together properly,” Paul tells the BBC. “I’m trying to finish it in the next month or so.”

Pressed to describe the sound of this forthcoming project, he offers: “It’s Paul McCartney songs. What can I say? Paul McCartney songs are varied. There will be a ballad, there will be a rocker — I don’t know how to classify them. I guess the worst thing for me would be to call them ‘pop songs.’ But it’s probably what they are. I hate those categories.”

Paul just collected his 17th Grammy last week, for his most recent studio effort — the standards set Kisses on the Bottom. More recently, he joined the surviving members of Nirvana for a muscular one-off track called “Cut Me Some Slack.”

Paul says these new sessions at Air Studios in London are also being overseen by Paul Epworth (Adele, Florence and the Machine, Cee Lo Green), Ethan Johns (Kings of Leon, Ryan Adams, son of Glyn Johns who worked on the sessions that would eventually become the Beatles’ swansong Let It Be) and Mark Ronson (Bruno Mars, Adele, Rufus Wainwright).

“They’re really good people. I knew their work, and I knew they were very good, so I just thought: ‘Let me see if I get on with them.’ I thought one might sort of rise to the top. They’re cool people whose work I liked,” Paul said, before adding with a laugh: “Of course, what’s happened is, I like them all.”
