A bandmate and friend of former Wings guitarist Henry McCullough says he suffered brain damage following his heart attack last November.
According to an interview with Something Else, Denny Seiwell, a former Wings drummer who played with McCullough in the Paul McCartney-led group, says it's doubtful McCullough will make a complete recovery.
"Unfortunately, we just got some bad news on Henry's condition," Seiwell told the outlet. "By the time the ambulance got there, because the lack of oxygen from that period of the heart attack through first treatment, he's suffered some significant brain damage."
Seiwell said while McCullough's friends and family, including his long-time partner Josie, still hold out hope, it's doubtful his condition will improve. "Josie is very hopeful, but some of the doctors -- according to friends -- don't think that he's going to have much of a recovery. He's going to need constant care the rest of his life."
McCullough joined Wings in 1971 after a stint in the psychedelic rock band the People. McCullough's playing was heard on "My Love," but he left Wings in 1973 before recording for Band on the Run began. He continued to work as a session musician while maintaining a solo career up to his heart attack and had played with a wide range of musicians from Joe Cocker and Spooky Tooth to Juice Newton.
There's been no update on McCullough's official site regarding his condition, nor has McCartney made any comment on the latest news.
