RARE IMAGES OF THE BEATLES FROM NEW BOOK "WITH THE BEATLES"

No one had a better eye on the band than Robert Whitaker, the late photographer who was the group's official documenter at the height of Beatlemania. A curated sampling of Whitaker's photos has been presented in a new book, With the Beatles. The book -- available through Amazon and in bookstores -- offers a rich and textured look at the group. HuffPost Entertainment has obtained a few photos from the book. Take a look in the gallery below and share a Beatles memory or two in the comments.

THE BEATLES & FRANK IFIELD STEREO "ON STAGE" ALBUM SELLS FOR OVER $22,000

This Beatles & Frank Ifield ‘On Stage’ album sold for a heavyweight price when the vinyl recently appeared for sale on eBay. The 10 day auction quickly started a bidding war, securing bids that took its .99 cent start price to $2500.00 in less than 90 minutes. It was all uphill from there, with the seller finally landing $22,268.68 for a record that was originally issued in 1964.
The featured songs ‘Please Please Me,’ Thank You Girl,’ ‘From Me To You,’ and ‘Ask Me Why’ were already in every fans collection, so when the label Vee Jay created ‘The Beatles & Frank Ifield On Stage’ record the label were trying to make it look as if they were offering the public something new.
Basically, Vee Jay was doing its best to cash in one last time on the recent success of the Beatles. Legal battles with Capital Records (who originally passed on signing them) found both companies in the courtroom fighting over who could issue what. The judge favored Vee Jay, allowing them to continue within the terms of the original contract but only for a brief time and this is when ‘On Stage’ re-appeared.
Frank Ifield was an easy listening and country music singer who had multiple hits in the early ‘60s. The label originally paired them by soliciting this collection as ‘Jolly What! England’s Greatest Recording Stars – The Beatles & Frank Ifield On Stage’ with a cover featuring an old British statesman wearing a Beatles wig. In Vee Jay’s fury to re-release the songs, the cover was changed to what is now known as the ‘portrait cover’ but apparently only 100 copies made it to the record stores.
This copy still in its shrink wrap has no sign of wear whatsoever, the corners are sharp and the back is crispy white. The seal is broken but the record within is described as “near mint” and the Vee-Jay rainbow label and custom inner sleeve are completely intact.
The seller, who’s written multiple Beatles records and memorabilia reference-price guides, is recognized as a leading authority on Beatles collecting, giving this item additional credibility.

The Beatles Love Me Do Limited Edition 50th Anniversary 7 Inch
October 4th 1962 saw a review in trade magazine Record Retailer of a debut single from a new band that was coming out the next day. It read: "A new group from the Liverpool area. Their first record but they already have a strong following and this seems to be the strongest outsider of the week."

Love Me Do by The Beatles was released on 5th October 1962 and that band of outsiders were off on their journey that would eventually lead them to conquer the world. Within a week the single entered the UK chart at 49 and it was eventually to go as high as 17 while spending 18 weeks on the chart.

To celebrate this important date in the history of British rock, we are releasing this "replica" of the original single in the original colourful house Parlophone sleeve. The audio is taken from the mono remaster of 2009 to ensure highest quality playback.

MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR REVISITED: 6 OCTOBER/BBC TWO

The Beatles’ Magical Mystery Tour

http://art.gazeta.kz/getImage/?type=photosmall3&w=350&id=17125

Arena presents the greatest Beatles story never told, a blockbuster double bill: a documentary full of fabulous Beatles archive material never shown before anywhere in the world. And the first screening for over 30 years of a lost and forgotten treasure, the only film conceived and directed by The Beatles themselves - Magical Mystery Tour.
Part One - Magical Mystery Tour Revisited
Songs you’ll never forget, the film you’ve never seen, and a story that’s never been heard. In 1967, in the wake of the extraordinary impact of Sgt. Pepper, The Beatles made a film – a dreamlike story of a coach daytrip, a magical mystery tour. It was seen by a third of the nation, at 8.35pm on BBC One on Boxing Day - an expectant public, hoping for some light entertainment for a family audience.
Magical Mystery Tour was greeted with outrage and derision by middle England and the establishment media. “How dare they?”, they cried – “They’re not film directors, who do they think they are?” they howled. Where were the four lovable moptops of Help! and A Hard Day’s Night?
What propelled The Beatles to make this surreal, startling and – at the time – utterly misunderstood film? Contributors include Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Peter Fonda, Martin Scorsese, Terry Gilliam, Paul Merton and Neil Innes.
Directed by Francis Hanly; produced by Jonathan Clyde; the executive producers are Anthony Wall and Jeff Jones

Part Two – The Beatles’ Magical Mystery Tour
Fully restored to the highest technical standard with a remixed soundtrack, Magical Mystery Tour comes out of the shadows and onto the screen.
By the end of 1967, The Beatles had achieved a creativity unprecedented in popular music.
Their triumphant summer release Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band was both avant garde and an instant hit. It went straight to No.1 in June and remained there for the rest of the year. They immersed themselves in the fiercely radical art of the new counterculture, and decided to make a film on their own terms, not as pop stars but as artists. However, was their adoring public ready for the move?
Roll up, roll up for the Mystery Tour! Made in England by The Beatles

PAUL´S ASTON MARTIN UP FOR AUCTION

Paul McCartney's Aston Martin up for auction with an estimated price of £380,000 this October.

The blue DB5 was ordered in 1964, just before the Beatles embarked on their world tour, and came complete with a black leather interior and Philips Record Player.
Paul was separated from his Aston back in 1970 though with its latest owners likely "Fixing a Hole" or two during its extensive restoration after the Beatle clocked up an impressive 40,000 miles.
Equipped with a four-litre six-cylinder engine and a top speed of 143mph the DB5 was quite the "Ticket to Ride" in the fast lane back in the '60s, and arguably still is.

The 1964 DB5 Convertible is said to be one of just 123 examples built, and has a documented ground-up restoration that's brought it up to the impeccable condition it is now.

PAUL DECORATE SKATEBOARDS FOR CHARITY AUCTION

Paul and Tom Petty are among the music stars who have written lyrics to their songs on skateboards that will be auctioned online on November 29 to benefit a charity founded by renowned skateboarder Tony Hawk.

Paul wrote the words to “Blackbird” on a board that belonged to Hawk, while Petty scrawled out the lyrics of “I Won’t Back Down” on another deck.Hawk, a longtime Beatles fan, tells Rolling Stone with regard to his decision to ask McCartney to write on his board, “I thought, ‘If I’m going to do this, I’m going for the top.’”

He admits he was surprised when the rock legend agreed, adding that Paul “told me his grandson skates and he tried doing it with him fairly recently — and decided he should not be doing that.”
Proceeds from the auction go to the Tony Hawk Foundation’s initiative to create and maintain skate parks in low-income areas around the U.S.

DYLAN: "ROLL ON JOHN" A TRIBUTE TO JOHN

banner_dylanlennon.jpg
AP
The most intriguing song on Tempest, Bob Dylan's 35th studio album, isn't the 14-minute title track about the sinking of the Titanic. It's the album's closer, "Roll on John," a tribute to John Lennon. "Shine your light, move it on," goes Dylan's refrain. "You burned so bright / Roll on, John". Whether critics are deriding the song for being "maudlin" or rhapsodizing about Dylan's "elegy for a dead friend," the relationship between the two rock icons has been taken for granted, as if the song was the inevitable result of a straight-forward friendship. In fact, Lennon and Dylan only met a handful of times from 1964 to 1969 and, when examined, their complex relationship suggests that in fact the song isn't about John Lennon—or at least not about the Lennon that Dylan knew.

November 12th will see the release of 'Live Kisses' - a stunning 13-song film, directed by Jonas Åkerlund, that captures the magic of an extraordinary evening in February of this year. In the intimate surroundings of Capitol Studios in Los Angeles, where Paul recorded much of his 'Kisses On The Bottom' album, he was reunited with the all-star musicians who joined him on the record to bring the songs to life for a once in a lifetime performance.

This was a concert unlike any Paul had given before. Without his famous Höfner bass in hand or in fact any musical instruments, Paul took his place behind the same microphone that has captured some of the most iconic voices in history to focus on his vocal delivery as he led the assembled A-list group of musicians through a collection of the standards he grew up listening to in his childhood, as well as his own original composition 'My Valentine'.

Streamed live to the world online, 'Live Kisses' marked the launch of Paul's 'Kisses On The Bottom' album. The film tells the story of how, with the help of Grammy Award-winning producer Tommy LiPuma, Diana Krall and her band, Paul created a critically acclaimed album, which featured guest appearances from Eric Clapton and Stevie Wonder. The record represents a deeply personal journey through classic American compositions that a young Paul first heard his father perform on piano at home. Upon its release 'Kisses…' topped the US Billboard Jazz album chart at number 1, as well as charting top 5 all around the world.

On the night the all-star line up were reunited to include musical director Diana Krall (piano), John Clayton (bass), Karriem Riggins (drums), John Pizzarelli (guitar), Anthony Wilson (guitar), Mike Mainieri (vibraphone) and conductor Alan Broadbent. Tommy LiPuma and Al Schmitt resumed their roles in the studio and special guest musicians on the evening included Abe Laboriel Jr (from Paul's touring band) on backing vocals and Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh. Walsh performed the 'My Valentine' guitar solo originally recorded by Eric Clapton on the studio album.

The concert was performed just hours after Paul brought Vine Street in LA to a standstill as he was presented with his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in front of the Capitol Records Building. The night of the concert (February 9th) was also the 48th anniversary of The Beatles' U.S. TV debut on The Ed Sullivan Show.

Bonus 'Live Kisses' material includes six versions of the 'My Valentine' music video, directed by Paul and starring Johnny Depp and Natalie Portman as well as a 'Making My Valentine' film. There are also two short films with behind the scenes footage filmed at the Mary McCartney album photoshoot for 'Kisses On The Bottom'. The final extra is an interview with Paul and producer Tommy LiPuma talking about the story of the album, its conception and creation.

'Live Kisses' is an intimate and charming concert film which offers an insight into the music and songwriters that inspired Paul to go on to become the most successful songwriter and performer in modern history. Beautifully presented, 'Live Kisses' comes with a 40-page hardback book containing photographs from the day itself, including the rehearsals.

UNSEEN PICS : JOHN IN ALMERIA, SPAIN 1966

Lennon Before Wicket: Unseen pictures of John who thought he was one of The Crickets

The famous mop-top haircut, leather jacket and guitar are gone, replaced by military fatigues and army boots. Yet the slight young man enjoying a game of cricket in the desert is unmistakable.
The pictures of John Lennon, taken in 1966 and seen here for the first time, show him on the set of the film How I Won The War during a brief break from The Beatles. Directed by Richard Lester, who also made A Hard Day’s Night and Help! with the Fab Four, the film offered Lennon, then 26, a serious acting role.
It also gave him a rare opportunity to escape from his increasingly enervating life with The Beatles, who were at the peak of their fame and besieged by screaming fans wherever they went.
John with the bat
BEATLES MAGAZINE
Previously unseen pictures of John on the film set of 'How I Won The War' in Almeria, Spain 1966

It had been a stressful year for Lennon. In March of that year, he had caused worldwide outrage with his comment in an interview that The Beatles were ‘more popular than Jesus’. Partly as a result of the public backlash, particularly in America, their tour of the US that August would be their last.
Just a month later he was on the set of the film, in which he played Private Gripweed, alongside Some Mothers Do ’Ave ’Em star Michael Crawford in the lead role.

An absurdist comedy, it was set in North Africa during the Second World War, although its anti-war message was seen as a commentary on the situation in Vietnam, which was escalating at the time.
Photographer Zdenko Hirschler visited the blisteringly hot set in Andalusia, Spain, arriving during a tea break in which Lennon displayed his legendary dry wit. Hirschler said Lennon was holding a cup of tea and a sandwich.
‘He told me, “See? One does not have to be a star to get a sandwich and a tea – but it helps to get you to the front of the waiting line.”
‘In spite of his military uniform, he looked like a young student – fresh, clean and happy. He was 26 but looked like a teenager.’
John seems to be having some fun on the set on the film How I Won The War - as he takes cover in a rudimentary cricket game

He was thrilled to be involved in the film, in which he first wore the round glasses which would become his trademark, hoping acting might provide him with a new direction.
He told Hirschler: ‘No more travelling, no more tours. We are going to split, for a while at least.’
Paul McCartney and girlfriend Jane Asher had decided to take a trip to Africa, George Harrison and his wife Patti went to India and Ringo Starr and wife Maureen were visiting relatives in England. ‘I wanted to try a new life – maybe acting could be a new solution, a new adventure,’ Lennon said.
Towards the end of the film, Lennon’s character dies after being shot four times. Lennon initially refused to take part in the scene, revealing that he was haunted by fears of an unnatural death. He told Lester he was concerned about an ‘eerie prophecy’ which he said ‘may mean violent death for me later on’. His fears came true in 1980 when Mark Chapman shot him five times on the doorstep of his home in New York.
John takes some time out to have a bowl, playing some form of cricket

The film drew lukewarm reviews on its release but Lennon’s performance was praised. Lennon wrote one of The Beatles’ most famous songs, Strawberry Fields Forever, during breaks from filming, and that November the band reconvened to begin recording their masterpiece, Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
Despite Lennon’s hope that How I Won The War would lead to other roles, it was his first – and last – non-Beatles film.

GEORGE HARRISON:LIVING IN THE MATERIAL WORLD-PART 2 /BBC4

George Harrison: Living in the Material World (Episode 2 of 2)
Duration: 1 hour, 55 minutes
The second and concluding part of Martin Scorsese's portrait of George Harrison.
Part two looks at Harrison's post-Beatles days - as a member of the Travelling Wilburys and a solo artist, as well as looking at his non-musical ventures, including his work as a movie producer and his family life with wife Olivia and son Dhani.
Racing legend Jackie Stewart tells of George's love of motor racing, Monty Python's Eric Idle recounts how George saved the Life of Brian from catastrophe by re-mortgaging his mansion to help finance it, and there are contributions from Travelling Wilbury bandmates including Tom Petty.
Harrison's widow Olivia Harrison gives a poignant account of her life with the Beatle, including the harrowing tale of the night when a violent intruder attacked them at home one evening in 1999.

Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, Yoko Ono, Olivia and Dhani Harrison, among many others, talk openly about George's many gifts and contradictions and reveal the lives they shared together.

BEATLES FILM PRODUCTION SUPERVISOR JOHN COATES DIES

John Coates, a film production supervisor who worked on the Beatles' Yellow Submarine, has died of cancer. According to the BBC, he remained active in the movie industry up until his death, most recently finishing work on a follow-up to the 1982 film The Snowman titled The Snowman and the Snowdog.
"It's very sad news. He was very involved [in the new film]," said a rep for Lupus Films, the production company behind The Snowman and the Snowdog. That film will be screened on the BBC's Channel 4 over Christmas.

Other projects on which Coates worked as producer or executive producer were The Tale of Jack Frost, Ivor the Invisible, The Animal Train, The Bear, Heavy Metal, The World of Peter Rabbit and Friends and Barney.
Coates got into film following a stint as an army officer in World War II. His first job was as a film distributor.

Y yo todavía no me canso de mí", aseguró.
