Universal Music Group has appointed Steve Barnett as
Chairman and CEO of its Capitol Music Group - which now includes The
Beatles catalogue.
In a statement, UMG said the hiring "underscores [our] commitment to
expanding the marketplace for new music" as it looks to "begin the
revitalisation of EMI Recorded Music".
Capitol was a key asset purchased by Universal as part of its £1.2bn acquisition of EMI Music.
Based in Los Angeles, California, at the iconic Capitol Records Tower, Barnett will be responsible for the overall management of the company which includes Capitol Records, Virgin Records, Blue Note, Astralwerks, Harvest, Capitol Christian Music Group, Caroline and the Capitol Studios.
