IN 1975 NANCY LEE ANDREWS DISCUSSED PARTYING WITH RINGO STARR

 

Ringo Starr and his girlfriend Nancy Andrews liked to go out partying. Subsequently, Andrews revealed which Marvin Gaye song they liked to dance to twice during each club visit. In addition, she revealed what food she liked to eat at a club with Ringo.

Ringo was in a relationship with Nancy Andrews from 1974 to 1980. Ringo and Andrews met through John Lennon. In the 2015 book Ringo: With a Little Help, Andrews discussed partying with Ringo.

“We loved to go to the discos in Monte Carlo and Regine’s was our favorite,” Andrews said. “The DJ knew that we loved ‘I Heard It Through the Grapevine‘ by Marvin Gaye and would play it at least twice while we were there.”
“Ringo would jump up and pull me to the dance floor,” Andrews recalled. “He had moves that were so simple but looked so good.”

Andrews revealed what she and Ringo liked to eat while clubbing.” Also we loved to go to Tramp in London … they had the best bangers and mash (sausage and mashed potatoes),” she remembered. 

“We would gobble it down around 2 a.m. before we went home. If other women wanted to dance with Ringo they didn’t ask — they knew I would scratch their eyes out.”

“I Heard It Through the Grapevine” became a huge hit. Gaye’s version of the song reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for seven weeks — a longer time than any of his other No. 1 singles.

“I Heard It Through the Grapevine” stayed on the chart for 15 weeks in total. Gaye released the song on his album In the Groove. The album peaked at No. 63 on the Billboard 200, staying on the chart for 27 weeks.

“I Heard It Through the Grapevine” was a massive hit in the United Kingdom too. 

According to The Official Charts Company, the song was No. 1 in the U.K. for three of its 15 weeks on the chart. 

None of Gaye’s other singles hit No. 1 there. Meanwhile, In the Groove never charted in the U.K.
