BEATLES COLLECTION TO BE AUCTIONED IN FRANCE

The sound of hammers are going to have to adapt to the rhythm of rock music. The auction house Chochon-Barré & Allardi welcomes to Drouot the most mythical group of music of the twentieth century : the Beatles.
Jacques Volcouve, presented as the specialist of the quartet, is letting go of his collection. A fourty year old compilation conceived thanks to his fervent passion for the band. Records, CDs, books, pictures, posters, videos, magazines, objects, etc. that mark the careers of the four icons and their extraordinary lives.

Jacques Volcouve began his collection in 1967 and over the years, started accumulating everything that had a significance to the Beatles. He quickly encounters an immense and growing market due to the phenomenal success of the group.

In 1973, when Europe 1 starts broadcasting a BBC series entitled « The Beatles Story », the collector reports to the station multiple errors he noticed on the show. The radio station will use him as an expert until the end of the series.

His expertise thus recognized, he decided to create the Club of 4 of Liverpool. This association, conceived as a press agency for the Beatles, attracted over 1500 members.

« What I wanted first was to share my pleasure and passion for the Beatles [and] make sure everything that was said about them was accurate! »

At the same time, the association edited the magazine « Fab Four Publication ». The content was sharp and didactic, beyond adoration and fanaticism. Each issue, until 1984, is devoted to a specific theme projects by publishing nine books between 1987 and 2012.

Ultimately, he organized the « Beatles show » in 1975 and 1977. During this festival exported to Belgium and Italy, the public was invited to discover rare filmographic documents.

After four decades, this prophet of the Beatles is sharing the knowledge he has acquired through the auction of this collection. His passion and expertise led him to meet George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney, Yoko Ono, Pete Best, and considered him as publisher, writer, biographer, advisor, and event organizer.Public exhibition - Drouot – Sales Rooms 1-7
