The estate for George Harrison was fuming after the late Beatles
guitarist’s song “Here Comes the Sun” was played (July 21) at
the 2016 Republican National Convention, reported Billboard.
The song echoed from the speakers when Ivanka Trump, the daughter of
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, walked out to introduce
her father.
“The unauthorized use of ‘Here Comes the Sun’ at the RNC is offensive
& against the wishes of the George Harrison estate,” the estate
tweeted from Harrison’s Twitter account.
Later, the estate showed a sense of humor when they suggested another song off Harrison’s solo album, All Things Must Pass,
that would have been more appropriate: “If it had been Beware of
Darkness, then we MAY have approved it! #TrumpYourself,” Harrison’s
estate quipped.
Harrison’s estate is far from the first to
complain about the music selected during the Republican Convention.
Previously, Paul Rodgers, Queen, Earth, Wind & Fire, The O’Jays, and
Luciano Pavarotti’s family have all spoke out about their music being
used at the RNC.
