Beatlemania is very much alive and well, according to data from the Fab Four's first three months of streaming on Spotify.
The
iconic British rock band has had 6.5 million listeners each month on
the online service, with 67 percent of them under the age of 35. The
total time that Beatles songs were streamed on Spotify in the 100 days
following Christmas 2015 adds up to 2,793 years.
Spotify
says that the Beatles have been more popular on its platform than the
likes of Sia, Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande and 5 Seconds of Summer --
musical acts who have each topped the US Billboard Top 200 albums chart
in recent years, and none of whom were alive when the Beatles split up
in 1970.
The world's biggest selling band of all time, the Beatles
were late to the streaming party. Their music was finally made available
to streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play, Tidal
and Pandora on Christmas Eve of last year. Given that only Spotify has
released specific data, there's likely been several more thousands of
years-worth of Beatles streaming.
The
old "who's the best Beatle" debate is usually a John Lennon vs. Paul
McCartney affair, but the most streamed song by the band on Spotify is
"Here Comes the Sun", written by George in 1969. It beats "Come
Together" (written by John), "Let it Be" and "Yesterday" (both by
Paul).
Geographically, Beatlemania appears strongest
in Mexico City, which was the city that streamed the band the most.
It's followed by London, Santiago, Chile and Los Angeles.
And finally: Thursday is the most popular day for Beatles streaming.
