WAX FIGURES OF THE BEATLES TO BE FEATURED IN THE ORLANDO ATTRACTION FOR A LIMITED TIME time

Beatles fans will get to see the figures of The Fab Four set in a pose that pays tribute to the 1969 Abbey Road album cover, which captured all four members walking across the famous zebra crossing outside of Abbey Road Studios.
To recreate the new figures at the tourist attraction, artists utilised measurements taken from previous sittings with the band, as well as image research from the Abbey Road album photo shoot to style each figure.

Madame Tussauds artists used a number of image references from the Abbey Road album cover photo shoot, which explain some differences between the original photo and the figures, including the group’s line-up and Paul’s flip-flops.
The band have a long history with the museum, as they were the first rock band to appear in the grand hall at Madame Tussauds London.
All four members originally met with studio artists in 1964 to take measurements for the creation of their original wax figures.
Fans can see the waxworks from Friday for a limited time.

THE BEATLES AT MAPLE LEAF GARDENS,TORONTO CANADA: PICS & VIDEO FROM THE CBC ARCHIVES 1964

Almost 51 years ago, screaming masses of young people ran amok in the streets of Toronto, proving definitively that Beatlemania was alive and well in Canada.
They were anxiously awaiting their first glimpse of the Fab Four in the flesh as the Beatles prepared to play Maple Leaf Gardens for the first time.

CBC was there, capturing the happy pandemonium of fans young and old (check out the grandmas who give the guys their stamp of approval because they're "decent, clean boys!"), as well as talking to John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and George Harrison about the fan fury that follows them around the world.
Click through the gallery above for vintage photos of the Beatles' British Invasion, courtesy of the CBC Still Photo Collection, and watch the amazing archival news footage for a glimpse at the boy band demands of 1964.

LINCOLN CENTER HONORS RICHARD LESTER WITH RETROSPECTIVE

Richard Lester’s 1968 film, “Petulia,” aimed dead center at the swinging ’60s and hit the bull’s-eye in evoking the disoriented historical moment of the Vietnam War, psychedelia and mod fashion, when everything seemed to be unraveling.

To the delirious playfulness of his two Beatles musicals, “Help!” and “A Hard Day’s Night,” Mr. Lester added a new layer of grown-up chaos with this story of a divorced, floundering San Francisco surgeon (George C. Scott); a kooky, free-spirited British beauty (Julie Christie); and her abusive husband (Richard Chamberlain), adapted from a novel by Lawrence B. Marcus. With Nicolas Roeg’s phantasmagoric cinematography and fractured narrative style, which jumps forward and back, this bittersweet movie was way ahead of its time.

“Petulia,” which screens Aug. 10 and 13 at the Walter Reade Theater, is a high point of Lincoln Center’s weeklong 15-film retrospective, “Richard Lester: The Running Jumping Pop Cinema Iconoclast,” beginning August 7th, which also includes “The Knack ... and How to Get It,” “Robin and Marian” and “The Three Musketeers.”

PAUL CLAIMS HE AND JOHN FORGOT DOZENS OF POTENTIAL BEATLES SONGS

Paul has claimed that "dozens" of potential Beatles songs were lost as he and John would frequently forget their work before getting the opportunity to record it.
Paul was talking to The Evening Standard about how new recording devices have fundamentally changed the songwriting process, revealing that songs he co-wrote with Lennon in the 1960s were often forgotten the morning after.

Many songs co-written by the pair were lost, says Paul
"Things have changed quite a bit," said Sir Paul. "You've got recording devices now which change the songwriting process. For instance, John and I didn't have them when we first started writing, we would write a
song and just have to remember it."
"And there was always the risk that we'd just forget it. If the next morning you couldn't remember it – it was gone. In actual fact you had to write songs that were memorable, because you had to remember them or they were lost! There must have been dozens lost this way.

"We didn't have tape recorders. Now you can do it on your phone. So you would have to form the thing, have it all finished, remember it all, go in pretty quickly and record it. Now, because you can get things down on a device, I've got millions of things I want to record and do."

JOHN LENNON DAY : 29TH JULY

The City of New York declares July 29th 2015 John Lennon Day‬

Yoko Ono, U2’s Bono and City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito marked the city’s inaugural “John Lennon Day” on Ellis Island Wednesday, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the day the Beatle got his green card.

Yoko Ono reveals her joy under the newly unveiled tapestry showing Manhattan as a giant yellow submarine with late Beatle at the helm, which was unveiled at the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration during the city’s inaugural “John Lennon Day."

“They let him stay, and he is still here. Yoko, he is still here,” said Bono.
Ono said that her “heart was crying” remembering her late husband, who battled to get his permanent residency and stay in New York after the U.S. government ordered him deported back to Britain over a pot possession plea.

“I remember how proud and happy he was” to be able to stay in the U.S., she said. “I’m sure John would have felt great to have a New York day.”
Ono recalled Lennon's fight against violence and hatred. She said he was a feminist before his time, taking their son Sean to Central Park every Sunday, and that now she thinks of him when she sees dads pushing strollers in the city.

"I just wish John was with us," she said. "Please be kind, be peaceful, and be loving."

The event, organized by Amnesty International, also celebrated Ono's gift of the rights to record cover versions of Lennon's post-Beatles songs to the human rights group, which has raised more than $5 million in royalties.
A tapestry showing Manhattan as a giant yellow submarine with Lennon at the helm — commissioned by Amnesty as a thank you to Ono — was donated to The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation for display at the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration and unveiled Wednesday.
Mark-Viverito flashed a peace sign along with Bono, Ono and U2's The Edge in front of the tapestry after declaring July 29 “John Lennon Day” in New York City.
"I've been very touched today," she said.

PAUL BACK IN LIVERPOOL FOR ANNUAL LIPA GRADUATION CEREMONY

Paul was back in Liverpool today for the annual LIPA graduation ceremony.
The Beatles star was on hand to honour the institute’s new Companions, who this year included Gemma Bodinetz, the artistic director of the Everyman and Playhouse theatres since 2003.
Among others from the arts and entertainment world receiving the accolade from Sir Paul – LIPA’s co-founder – today were Slade star Noddy Holder and Travis frontman Fran Healy.

Mark Featherstone-Witty, LIPA’s founding principal and CEO, said: “The government recognises that the creative economy generates £8.8m each hour to our economy and yet, with the second attempt to define essential disciplines for schools, does not rate the disciplines we teach as essential.
“Well, with around 95% of our graduates in work three years after leaving us, is the government trying to destroy, as it did with international students, a great British success story?”
Around 280 students from 16 countries graduated at today’s ceremony, having completed either foundation certificate or degree programmes.

BRITISH ACTOR TOM HUGHES CAST AS JOHN LENNON IN BBC RADIO DRAMA

He'll star as the iconic singer-songwriter in Radio 2's 'When Elvis Met The Beatles"
British actor Tom Hughes is to play John Lennon in a forthcoming radio drama.

Hughes, known for his roles in BBC One's Silk and the Ricky Gervais/Stephen Merchant film Cemetery Junction, will portray the iconic singer-songwriter in BBC Radio 2's When Elvis Met The Beatles.
The drama's writer, Jeff Young, describes it as "a kind of fake documentary" that imagines what happened when the Fab Four met the American singer at his L.A. mansion in August 1965. Kevin Mains, who played Lennon's songwriting partner Paul McCartney in recent ITV drama Cilla, will co-star as Presley.
Hughes said of his role as Lennon: "It's said that you shouldn't meet your heroes, I'm not sure that's true. John Lennon is a hero of mine. I'll never have the chance to meet him, so playing him is the next best thing. I was delighted to be asked and I just hope that in some way I've done this great man justice."
Meanwhile, three other actors who appeared in ITV's Cilla will co-star as Lennon's Beatles bandmates, the Radio Times reports. Shaun Mason will play McCartney, Tom Dunlea will appear as Ringo Starr and Michael Hawkins will portray George Harrison. Dunlea and Hawkins played the same roles in Cilla.
Writer Jeff Young said of the forthcoming radio drama: "I was a big Beatles fan when I was younger, but for this project, initially, I knew very little about the Elvis and Beatles meeting. Then as I began researching the story, the strangeness of the meeting and the psychological dimensions, the dramatic opportunities became obvious. The larger than life characters involved, including Brian Epstein and Colonel Tom Parker, all set against a backdrop of corrupt American politics and the disastrous war in Vietnam, made for a strange and compelling narrative."
"In writing this drama I went back my old Beatles records and I became a Beatles fan, all over again," he added.
