Astrid Kirchherr "Early Beatles exhibit!" TODAY Saturday night from 6pm-8pm the opening.

Leica Gallery Los Angeles, the stunning new photographic exhibition space located in the heart of West Hollywood is pleased to announce its second exhibition, “The Early Beatles Collection,” by iconic photographer Astrid Kirchherr. This exhibition, presented in partnership with Rock Paper Photo and Ginzburg Fine Arts, represents a powerful array of images of the legendary rock band The Beatles, many of which have never been seen before. An opening reception will be open to the public on Saturday, September 7, 2013 from 6pm to 8pm with the exhibition continuing through October 19, 2013 at Leica Gallery Los Angeles, 8783 Beverly Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA 90048.

At age 22, Astrid Kirchherr, a fashion and art school graduate, accompanied her bohemian friends to the Kaiserkeller Club in Hamburg, Germany to hear some new rock and roll played by a young group of musicians from Liverpool, England. Kirchherr was overwhelmed by what she saw and heard:

“It was like a merry-go-round in my head. They looked absolutely astonishing... My whole life changed in a couple of minutes. All I wanted was to be with them and to know them.” - Astrid Kirchherr

Kirchherr’s fast friendship with John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Pete Best, Stuart Sutcliffe, and eventually with Ringo Starr, resulted in her capturing an exhilarating time in rock and roll history. Her “Early Beatles Collection,” much of which was photographed with a Leica camera, is one of the most important photographic records of this time in 20th-century popular culture. Kirchherr’s lens caught the members of The Beatles as they transitioned from unknown teenagers to famous rock stars.

The exhibition will include a fascinating mix of candid and posed portraits taken on a train ride during the filming of a Hard Days Night in 1964 for Stern Magazine. Also included will be the well-known images of the Beatles at the Hugo Hasse Fun Fair in Hamburg in 1960 (with their pre-fame rockabilly look) along with several remarkable photographs of young Beatles fans and musicians.
