HAPPY BIRTHDAY ZAK !!!!

On 13 September 1965 Ringo Starr's wife Maureen Starkey gave birth to their first son Zak.
Zak Starkey was born at Queen Charlotte's Hospital, Hammersmith, London. Ringo chose Zak's name because it was "a nice strong name that can't be shortened," explaining that it was a "mad cowboy name that had been spinning round my brain at the time."
In later years he followed in his father's footsteps and became a drummer, working with acts including The Who, Oasis, The Lightning Seeds, The Healers and Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band.

Zak Richard Starkey (born 13 September 1965) is an English rock drummer. He is the son of The Beatles drummer Ringo Starr and Ringo Starr's first wife Maureen Starkey Tigrett. He is also well known for his unofficial membership of the English rock band The Who, with whom he has performed and recorded since 1996. He is also the third drummer to have appeared with English rock band Oasis. Zak Starkey has also worked with other musicians and bands such as Johnny Marr, Paul Weller, The Icicle Works, The Waterboys, ASAP, The Lightning Seeds and John Entwistle.
Zak Starkey grew up at Sunny Heights at St George's Hill in Surrey and then at Tittenhurst Park at Sunninghill in Berkshire. At age eight, Starkey became interested in music when The Who's drummer Keith Moon gave Starkey a drum kit. Zak Starkey called Keith Moon "Uncle Keith". At age ten, he began teaching himself to play the drums. His father gave him only one lesson, but afterward discouraged his son's growing interest, hoping instead not to see him in the same business as his father.Although Ringo Starr has praised his son's abilities he is said to have stated that he had always regarded Zak Starkey as a future lawyer or doctor. The Who's drummer Keith Moon was one of Ringo Starr's closest friends and Zak Starkey's Godfather, and although they "never sat together at a drum kit", Keith Moon discussed drumming with Zak Starkey, and gave Zak Starkey his first professional drum kit, which later sold at Sotheby's for twelve thousand pounds.By the age of twelve Starkey was already performing in pubs and was later a member of a garage band called the Next.

In the early 1980s in 1985 Zak Starkey appeared with a re-formed Spencer Davis Group.and on 22 January 1985 Zak Starkey married Sarah Menikides. Shortly after his marriage, Zak Starkey recorded a musical version of Wind in the Willows with Eddie Hardin. On 6 September 1985 his daughter was born, making Zak Starkey's father Ringo Starr the first of The Beatles to become a grandfather. In the same year he joined his father Ringo Starr on Sun City by Artists United Against Apartheid. Zak Starkey replaced Chris Sharrock as the drummer in The Icicle Works in 1989, leaving the band the next year without appearing on any recordings with them. A B-side later issued by founder member Ian McNabb, featured Starkey on drums and is presumed to date from Zak Starkey's tenure with the group. Zak Starkey played on Silver and Gold (1989), a solo album released by Iron Maiden guitarist Adrian Smith.
