Sixties folkie Donovan swaps mellow yellow for brilliant white when
he gives a talk on The Beatles' seminal "White Album" in Trinity College
this October.
The 67-year-old, who had hits with Sunshine Superman and Mellow Yellow, will
speak about his experiences with the Fab Four when he joined them on
retreat in India in 1968 and the influence it had on the double album.
During this period, he taught George Harrison and John Lennon guitar
playing techniques and “ultimately influenced” The White Album. He also
studied Transcendental Meditation with the band during their ultimately
unsatisfactory Indian sojourn with the Maharishi.
Hosted jointly by TCD School of English and Trinity Long Room Hub
Arts & Humanities Research Institute, the talk will take place on
October 21st and is timed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of The
Beatles' concerts in Dublin's Adelphi Theatre in November 1963.
Donovan has just released his new album, Shadows of Blue, which he recorded in Nashville. He will also play Dublin's Olympia Theatre on October 26th.
