Stella McCartney was the most searched-for fashion label on
Google in the UK for 2012, beating Karl Lagerfeld and Victoria's Secret.
As if anymore confirmation was needed that 2012 really was Stella
McCartney's year, the British designer's label has emerged as the most
searched-for term in Google's annual Zeitgeist list under trending
fashion labels.
McCartney and her team designed Team GB's Olympic 2012 kit, and was crowned both
Designer of the Year and Designer Brand
at this month's
British Fashion Awards
.
Brands following Stella McCartney in the list are (in order): Karl
Lagerfeld, Victoria's Secret, Alice Temperley, Versace, Mulberry, Marks
and Spencer, Ossie Clark, Burberry and LK Bennett.
During her acceptance speech at the British Fashion Awards McCartney
told a story
of an anonymous executive at her former employer Chloé
who told her she would never succeed if she launched her label in
Britain. "Stella, you will live to regret this. You will fail. And I
offer you to stay here and start your brand in Paris with us" he told
her, concluding: "You need to know: there has never in the history of
fashion been a British fashion house with a woman's name on the label
that has ever been truly global."
Google's annual Zeitgeist report reveals what has captured the UK's
attention in the past year. Whitney Houston was followed by Kate
Middleton in the 'people' category, while the most searched-for gadget
was the iPad 3.
