The Dec. 12 Hurricane Sandy benefit concert at Madison Square Garden will have a TV audience as well.
HBO, AMC, Showtime and Sundance Channel are just four of the domestic
networks that will televise the show aimed to serve as a benefit to the
victims of the storm that caused tumultuous damage on the East Coast
several weeks ago. Which other networks will air the concert is still
being worked out, but several more are likely to be added.
The show will be also be livestreamed by Hulu, Yahoo and AOL.
Among the superstar acts scheduled to appear onstage are PAUL MCCARTNEY, Bruce
Springsteen and the E Street Band, the Who,Jon Bon
Jovi, Kanye West and Alicia Keys. Dave Grohl and Eddie Vedder have just
been added to the lineup.
Show is expected to last about four hours.
There is a strong international component as well, with a TV
reach in Asia, Europe and Africa. DirecTV's offshoots in Italy and
Brazil are televising the concert, as well as Sundance Channel Europe
and Sky 1 in Italy.
Proceeds will benefit the Robin Hood Relief Fund, an offshoot of the Gotham-based philanthropic Robin Hood Foundation.
Cablevision topper James Dolan, Clear Channel president John Sykes and Harvey Weinstein are producing the concert.
HBO has televised several concerts from Madison Square Garden in
the past, including a benefit following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. For
benefit shows and telethons, it is not uncommon for different networks
to share TV rights.
Clear Channel has all radio rights.
Official announcement of TV partners will likely be made Wednesday.
