With all the big names
that have hit the young Tuscaloosa Amphitheater thus far, this one is
possibly the biggest or at least most widely known: Ringo Starr.
Ringo Starr and 13th All Starr Band, which this year includes
Todd Rundgren, Steve Lukather of Toto, Gregg Rolie of Santana and
Journey, Richard Page of Mister Mister, Mark Rivera and Gregg
Bisonnette, will play the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater July 3.
If this
tour follows previous All Starr packages, each of the hitmakers will
play a bit of their own music, sometimes solo and sometimes with the
full band, interspersed with and concluded by Ringo's Beatles and solo
hits, including “With a Little Help From My Friends,” “Yellow
Submarine,” “It Don't Come Easy,” “I Wanna Be Your Man,” “Photograph,”
“You're Sixteen,” “Act Naturally” and “Back Off Boogaloo.”
Among
the hits that might be played by his All Stars are “Rosanna,” “Broken
Wings,” “Black Magic Woman,” “Hello It's Me,” “I Saw the Light” and
“Bang on the Drum All Day.”
He's also playing behind a new CD, his
17th solo studio record, “Ringo 2012.” It features nine songs,
including covers of “Rock Island Line” and the Buddy Holly song “Think
It Over,” along with his own tunes co-written with Dave Stewart, Joe
Walsh, Van Dyke Parks and others. He's also re-recorded his older songs
“Wings” and “Step Lightly.”
Tickets for the July 3 show will go on sale at 10 a.m. Feb. 24 at www.ticketmaster.com,
all Ticketmaster outlets, the Amphitheater box office or by phone at
800-745-3000. All seats will be reserved, in tiers of $31.75, $51.75 and
$71.75.
