Last year saw Paul make headline news when he brought his epic Up and Coming tour to a dramatic finale with two massive stadium shows in Rio, Brazil playing to over 100,000 people. His 'Up and Coming' tour was seen by nearly half a million people across South America over a handful of special dates. Makeshift fan-made McCartney villages sprung up everywhere the tour went, with fans celebrating the music and life of Paul as they camped outside stadiums days in advance waiting for the doors to open to get the best possible positions inside the venues. Following weeks of excited speculation and internet rumours, today Paul confirms that he is taking his new 'On The Run' tour to South America this April.
On April 15th, Paul will make his first ever visit to Uruguay. If previous visits are anything to go by, Montevideo can expect to make headline news. Paul has played a truly staggering range of venues and locations. From pub gigs to huge outdoor parks and stadiums; Paul has even played into Space, outside the Coliseum in Rome, in Moscow's Red Square and at the White House to name just a few. In recent years, Paul's live shows have even acquired a new legendary status, garnering unprecedented reviews from fans and critics alike wherever he goes.
Paul will also be returning to Brazil with a show in Florianopolis on April 25th, almost exactly twelve months since his last visit, which brought Rio to a standstill and saw over 1.5 million people tune in online to watch the first ever concert to be broadcast live on the internet across South America.
Nearly two years to the day after setting the record for the fastest-selling show in the country's history, Paul will then return to Mexico for the tour's first date in the territory; Saturday 5th May at Estadio Omnilife in Guadalajara. The Guadalajara date will be Paul's first visit to Mexico since his Up And Coming Tour in 2010. It was the first of that tour's two shows at Mexico City's Foro Sol Stadium on the 27th May 2010 that shattered records, as 60,000 tickets were snapped up in within mere minutes of going on sale. Sources at Ticketmaster Mexico speculated that tickets could have gone even more quickly had technology been able to keep up with the overwhelming demand. A second show was added on 28th May 2010 and both shows instantly became the stuff of local legend, along with Paul's 2002 three-night stand at the Palacio de los Deportes and his first visit on 1993's New World Tour, and deservedly so. It's unlikely that Mexico will ever experience such enthusiastic sing-a-longs and impressive synchronized cigarette lighter work again - that is, until Paul returns in May!
The epic three- hour show features music that spans Paul's entire career and unique back catalogue. Speaking about the forthcoming show Paul said:
"I love South America. We've had such fun there on our recent visits. The people and audiences are so passionate and musical. The enthusiasm is mind blowing and we are looking forward to getting back out there to play and party!"
Over fifty years into his career, he continues to push boundaries, perform to millions and make global news with countless monumental shows.
