Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney has revealed his desire to visit Australia again, saying he is keen to tour here soon.

"I would love to come, I would really love to come," McCartney said.

And it may be because he still has a clear memory of the moment nearly 48 years ago when he and his bandmates stood on the balcony of a Melbourne hotel, overlooking the pandemEnlaceonium of Beatlemania.

When asked whether he remembered anything of his first visit to Australia, McCartney replied: "Oh yeah . . . Southern Cross Hotel . . . I look at pictures of it now and I think: 'Was that me? Was I really there?' You know you look at us on the balcony and all of these people there, it's great memories for me. I mean I love Australia," McCartney said in an interview with Channel Seven's Sunday Night program, which screens tonight.

"In Liverpool, half the relatives either went to Australia or Canada; well, you know that - lousy Poms. But I think you know, outside of all the joking, I think that Australians and British have got, often, quite an affection for each other.
