JOHN was convinced that the number 9 had a spiritual significance in his life. He was born on October 9. His first home was 9 Newcastle Road, south Liverpool. He wrote songs such as One After Nine O Nine, Number 9 Dream and Revolution Number 9.He died in New York on December 9.
But rewind the tape ... on November 9, 1961, he would make contact with someone who would take his band the Beatles from their leather-clad Hamburg and Cavern days and local hero status to global superstardom.
November 9 1961 – 50 years ago – at a lunchtime session in the Cavern, Mathew Street, Brian Epstein, manager of the nearby NEMS music store, went down into the sweaty cellar full of noise and met the street-wise band for the very first time.
Bill Harry, author of 26 Beatle-themed books was there on the day. He knows. He arranged it.

He says it was a sheer myth that Brian’s intrigue that particular day led him to meet the Beatles ... John, Paul, George and Pete Best.
Bill says: “Brian was a record reviewer for my paper, Mersey Beat. He, my wife Virginia, and then part-time Cavern DJ Bob Wooler would drink in the Roscoe Arms pub and talk abut the Beatles.
